Check out the audio version of this study!

Hello everyone and welcome back to our Revelations study. This will be part 3 of our study series focusing on the 1st half of the 7 year Tribulation period and the events that will take place during that time. We will go over the following events:

The Anti-Christ rise to power and The 1st Seal Judgement (Rev 6:2) (Dan 9:27),

The Two Witnesses (Rev Ch 11) and The 144,000 Jewish Evangelist (Rev 7:4-8),

The False Prophet (Rev 13:11) and,

The remaining 6 Seal Judgements (Rev Ch 6 & 8) (Matt 24:4-8)

These will be the main events that we will go over. As you can see there are many things to discuss, which is why I broke this down into two parts. And by just observing the chapters, you can see that the book of Revelations does not unfold in numerical order, but in chronological order. I will go over each event as they happen in order.

But before we start, there is one thing I wanted to bring to your attention. Many people think that the Tribulation Period starts directly after the Rapture of the Church, it doesn’t. As prophesied by Daniel (Dan 9:27), the Tribulation Period does not start until the Anti-Christ confirms a peace treaty with many for one week (1 Biblical week = 7 years in Daniels prophecy). This peace confirmation will start the clock of the Tribulation Period. In my previous study “Peace in the Middle East – Good, Bad, or Prophetic,” I go into detail about Dan 9:27 and when the Tribulation Period starts. So to recap, there will be a period of time between the Rapture of the Church and the start of the Tribulation Period. This period of time will be to facilitate certain events that must take place prior to the start of the Tribulation Period. I will go over these events in a future study.

For now lets get back to the start of the Tribulation Period.

The Anti-Christ rise to Power and the 1st Seal Judgement

The Anti-Christ rise to power is depicted in the 1st Seal Judgement. Lets look at the verse (Rev 6:2):

I looked, and behold, a white horse, and he who sat on it had a bow; and a crown was given to him, and he went out conquering and to conquer.

The rider on the white horse is not Jesus, it’s the Anti-Christ. Jesus does come back on a white horse but that will be at the end of the Tribulation Period (Rev 19:11), not the beginning. The crown given to him and his going out to conquer signifies his rise to power. The Anti-Christ has to earn the respect of the entire world, from the political powers to the ruling wealthy. The Anti-Christ rise to power will be the 1st Seal Judgement.

Before we get into the next Seal Judgements, I wanted to go over the next two events that will also take place at the beginning of the Tribulation Period.

The Two Witnesses and the 144,000 Jewish Evangelist

Though the Church and the Holy Spirit were taken out of the Earth at the Rapture, God does not leave the people going through the Tribulation Period with nothing. At the beginning of the Tribulation Period God will bring about two witnesses that will prophesy and preach about the Kingdom. Lets look at Rev 11:3

And I will grant authority to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy for twelve hundred and sixty days, clothed in sackcloth.”

1260 days is 3.5 years. The two witnesses will be granted authority from God to prophesy and to preform signs so to preach to the world of the Kingdom. At the end of the 3.5 years, God will take away His protection from them and they will be captured by the Anti-Christ and killed. Their bodies will be laying in the streets of Jerusalem for 3.5 days for all to see. After which God will bring them back to life and “Rapture” them into heaven (Rev 11:11-13).

In a future study I will go over the possibility of whom these two witnesses “could” be using different supporting passages in scripture. But for now we still have much to cover.

Around the same time God brings about the two witnesses, He will also put into the hearts of 144,000 Jewish men the love of Christ and will put His seal of protection on them. Lets look at Rev 7:2-4:

And I saw another angel ascending from the rising of the sun, having the seal of the living God; and he cried out with a loud voice to the four angels to whom it was granted to harm the earth and the sea, saying, “Do not harm the earth or the sea or the trees until we have sealed the bond-servants of our God on their foreheads.” And I heard the number of those who were sealed, one hundred and forty-four thousand sealed from every tribe of the sons of Israel:

These Jewish men will become evangelists and go out to preach to the whole world! Imagine 144,000 “Pauls” running around preaching the Gospel? The world will not be left to fend for itself. Lets move on.

The False Prophet

As the Anti-Christ will be energized by Satan, the False Prophet also will be energized and have all the authority of the Anti-Christ (Rev 13:12). His job will be to exalt the Anti-Christ to make the people worship him using great signs and wonders given to him by Satan. See Rev 13:14-15

14 And he deceives those who dwell on the earth because of the signs which it was given him to perform in the presence of the beast, telling those who dwell on the earth to make an image to the beast who had the wound of the sword and has come to life. 15 And it was given to him to give breath to the image of the beast, so that the image of the beast would even speak and cause as many as do not worship the image of the beast to be killed.

In the middle of the Tribulation period, the Anti-Christ will go into the Temple that he allowed to be built in Jerusalem, and will claim to be God. The False Prophet will give all his support to the Anti-Christ and even build an image of the Anti-Christ and put it in the Temple when the Anti-Christ leaves. The False Prophet will have the ability to give breath to this image so that it can speak and deceive many.

Also during this time a false one world church will be established (Rev 17) for the first half of the Tribulation Period. The purpose of this Church will be to deceive those who dwell on the earth. The Anti-Christ for the first 3.5 years of the Tribulation Period will align with this religion until he makes his claim to be God and gets rid of this false religion entirely.

Lets look at the last major event of the 1st half of the Tribulation Period, the remaining 6 Seal Judgements. These judgements will happen throughout the first 3.5 years of the Tribulation Period and will end before the 2nd half begins.

Revelations Chapter 6 and 8 depict the Seal Judgements. We already went over the 1st Seal Judgement which was the introduction and rise to power of the Anti-Christ. Death follows.

The 2nd Seal Judgement (Rev 6:3-4), War, is depicted by a rider on a red horse causing men to slay one another. Death follows.

The 3rd Seal Judgement (Rev 6:5-6), Famine, is depicted by a rider on a black horse. This judgement will cause a hyperinflation, meaning food shortages and prices to sky rocket. You will have to work an entire day just to feed your family for that one day. Death follows.

The 4th Seal Judgement (Rev 6:7-8), Death, is depicted by a rider on a pale horse. The reason why I wrote “Death follows” following the previous judgements is because this 4th judgement is the “result” of the previous judgements. 1/4th of the worlds population will die during the first 3.5 years of the Tribulation Period. That’s roughly 1.7 billion people today.

The 5th Seal Judgement (Rev 6:9-11), Martyrs, will be the normal killing and murdering of people who gave their life to Christ during this time. Killing Christians in the Tribulation Period will be as common as not killing them today.

The 6th Seal Judgement (Rev 6:12-17), Terror, will be depicted by a great earthquake, a darkened sun, a blood red moon, and stars (possibly meteors) crashing into earth. The rich and wealthy during this time will go into hiding and possibly escape much of what is happening, but not for long.

And last is the 7th Seal Judgement (Rev Ch 8), says that there was total silence in heaven for a half an hour. This is the quiet before the next round of storm activity, just like the quiet that sometimes occurs before a storm. The verse then ends with an angel throwing what is called a censer, which is filled with fire, to the earth. When he does this, the earth is hit by thunderings, lightnings, and another earthquake. This is also the introduction to the start of the next set of Judgements and the end of the first half of the Tribulation Period.

  • As a side note, Matthew 24:4-8 is a parallel passage to the Seal Judgements in Revelations Ch 6.
