This is the headline, a call to all muslims to wage war with Israel. You may think that this could never happen, especially since it seems as if peace is becoming more prevalent in the Middle East (Abraham Accords). But for those who study Bible prophecy, this is not only a possibility, but an absolute for the future of Israel.
In this study I’m going to take you to the passages in scripture where the prophets received messages from God of this future war between Israel and all its surrounding neighbors. This war is commonly known as the war of Gog and Magog (The Alignment of Nations) which will happen at the beginning of the Tribulation Period and not to be confused with the Battle of Armageddon which happens at the end of the Tribulation. The Jewish people recognize this war as the final battle of the ages, but the book of Revelations reveals that one last battle will take place after.
Now we are going to look at the ‘who, what, when, where, and how‘ of this war:
- Who are the players,
- What is the purpose,
- When will it take place,
- Where will it take place, and
- How will it end?
First, lets look at the passages that explains who the players will be:
Eze 38:2-6 nasb / Psalm 83:4-8 nasb / Dan 11:36-40 nasb
- Gog / Magog / Rosh – Russia
- Meshech / Tubal / Gomer / Beth-Togarmah – Turkey
- Perisa – Iran
- Put – Libya
- Ethiopia – Ethiopia
Gog is a prince of (Rosh) Russia; a which is a title of a strong leader. Magog is the second son of Japheth (a son of Noah) who settled in what is today Russia. Gomer, Beth Togarmah, Meshech, Tubal are ancient names for Turkey. Persia became Iran in 1935. Put (third son of Ham) is the area of Libya, and Ethiopia includes itself and the areas of Sudan and Somalia.
- Ishmaelites – Saudi Arabia
- Tyre – Lebanon
The Ishmaelites were the descendants of Ishmael, who was the brother of Isaac and the son of Hagar (Gal 4:25 nasb). They inhabited Arabia which today is Saudi Arabia. Tyre was a city in now-a-day Lebanon.
- King of the North: Syria
- King of the South: Egypt
Syria borders Israel from the North and Egypt borders Israel from the South.
Now that we know the players of this war, lets look at the passages that explain the purpose:
Eze 38:16 nasb / Rev 13:12 nasb
This passage in Ezekiel explains that God causes these nations to come against the land of Israel so that all the nations on the Earth will know Him after He destroys all the armies.
Now I put this passage in Revelations in here for a specific reason. In this passage the False Prophet will create a one world religion where he causes all to worship the beast and obtain the mark of the beast. Now if you look at all the nations involved in the Gog and Magog war, you will notice that all of them (with the exception of Russia) are Islamic nations. If God destroys all these nations that come against Israel, He will essentially wipe Islam off the face of the earth, leaving a path to a one world religion to be established. Due to radical Islamist, none who associate with it will follow a different religion or belief, therefore Islam will have to be gone before this one world religion is established.
So when will this war take place? Here are the passages that will help us answer this question:
Eze 38:11 nasb / Dan 9:27 nasb / and Rev 6:3-4 nasb
The passages in Ezekiel and Daniel here go together quite well. Here Daniel prophesies that the Anti-Christ will confirm a peace treaty will many nations for one week (one week = seven years as prophesied by Daniel) which will start the Tribulation Period. Ezekiel here says that these nations will wage war with Israel when they have “unwalled villages” (a term in the Bible which means peace). So now we know that this war will happen at the beginning of the Tribulation period once peace is established. Lastly, the passage here in Revelations speaks about the second Seal Judgement (War), confirming that war will be prevalent during the Tribulation Period before the Battle of Armageddon.
As far as where this war will take place and the outcome, Eze 39:1-6 nasb confirms that God will gather all these to the mountains of Israel, where He will ultimately destroy them all. This God will do in order to facilitate the rest of the end time scenario.
Now, look at how close we are today.. just in the last couple of months, the nation of Israel has established peace between two other Arab nations (UAE, Bahrain) and more are lining up (see my post on “Peace in the Middle East – Good, Bad, or Prophetic). We are living in a new era where Arab nations are wanting peace with Israel instead of being enemies. Dan 9:27 nasb says that the Anti-Christ will confirm (not sign) peace treaties with many nations which will start the Tribulation Period. And before the Tribulation starts, the Rapture of the Church will take place Rev 3:10 nasb.
